3. Bài mẫu – IELTS Sample Band 8.0+ cho đề thi IELTS Writing Task 2 ngày 22/07/2023

In the current technology-driven and information-laden era, people’s viewpoints and perceptions are increasingly affected by newspapers of various forms. Personally, I would contend that this phenomenon mainly derives from their frequent exposure and undue faith in news, which manifests itself as a detrimental propensity.

One major driving force behind mass media’s wide influence on individuals’ mindset lies in the widespread availability of news coverage. In the increasingly digitized society, ordinary citizens can gain access to topical affairs on a daily basis via a wide array of platforms ranging from newspapers, social media, streaming services to televised programs. With such an influx of data constantly updated, it is unavoidable that readers and viewers’ opinions can be unconsciously infiltrated and influenced by mainstream newspapers. In addition, people’s tendency to believe in news unquestioningly is another culprit of this growing phenomenon. Since numerous sources of news are posted on such well-credited sites as printed newspapers or TV broadcasts, the public is likely to associate them with this high credibility, thereby letting their perspectives and behaviors be shaped without noticing.

The profound influence of newspapers can exert several adverse impacts on the general populace, one of which is its risk of bewildering the public. Indeed, there exist certain journalistic forums that use exaggerating features and sensationalized news in newspaper publishing to attract readers and increase circulation. For instance, during the COVID-19 outbreak, several newspapers overstated or even distorted the fatality rates, which triggered a wave of unnecessary fear and anxiety throughout society. Furthermore, the prevalence of mass media can also psychologically manipulate viewers’ awareness and decision-making process for undesirable purposes. With simply an article extolling or criticizing a famous figure, several readers, especially netizens, would be provoked to either compliment or verbally attack this target accordingly.

To conclude, the pervasive influence of newspapers and other forms of media has the power to influence the general public thanks to their frequent exposure, but this is associated with consequences in terms of the proliferation misleading news and negative public reactions. Therefore, I am convinced that journalists should strictly conform to their work ethics, placing truth on their top agenda to provide readers with accurate and trustworthy information.
