3. Bài mẫu – IELTS Sample Band 8.0+ cho đề thi IELTS Writing Task 2 ngày 22/07/2023

People have different views about whether to investigate family history or concentrate on the current and upcoming generations. While the benefits gained from carrying out such research are undeniable, I am more convinced that it is better for people to shift their focus onto the future.

On the one hand, there are good reasons to probe into family history. Firstly, devoting time to studying genealogy and the health records of family members can provide useful clues for early and precise disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. This is the case for dangerous genetic diseases such as hemophilia, whose awareness could allow better foresight or early healthcare interventions. Secondly, knowing our family background is key to our development of a sense of belonging with not only our ancestors but also present relatives. This is critically important because the way we relate to our family stories and create our own narratives about ourselves can allow us to identify and establish our unique, authentic core identity.

On the other hand, I side with those who emphasize the need to pay more attention to the current and upcoming generations rather than digging up the past. Firstly, it has been argued that genealogical research stemming merely from people’s curiosity about their origins is a complete waste of time and money since past events have little impact on or relevance to the present. Secondly, it is widely believed that only by giving present generations sufficient attention through the provision of good health care, a positive family environment, and proper guidance, can people ensure a brighter future and prosperity for their own family line. Since these goals can be met without any loss to the demise of genealogy study, I would argue that exploring our own family histories should not be considered as time-wasting.

In conclusion, besides the clear benefits to investigating family history in terms of health and connection, I stand by the view that staying focused on current issues and providing for upcoming generations should be given priority.
