1998 and 1999:

• 1998: over a half of 16-30 // far exceeding 31-50 by about 11% // youngest and oldest age brackets exceptionally lower // merely below 5%
• 1999: dramatic declines to around 45% and 39% in 16-30 and 31-50 respectively // the two other groups rose substantially to nearly 10%

2000:

• Age disparity was further narrowed // marginal decreases to less than 45% // 16-50 remained the dominant group // notable increases in less than 15 and over 50 // constituted approximately 10% of each cohort’s total percentage

The bar chart compares the consumption of the Internet categorized by age brackets in Taiwan in three consecutive years starting from 1998. Overall, while a downward trend was registered in internet usage among 16-50-year-olds, a reverse pattern was seen in the two remaining age groups. Additionally, the majority of Taiwanese internet users fell into the age cohort of 16-50 during the surveyed period.

Regarding the first two years, over a half of 16-30 aged Taiwanese used the internet in 1998, far exceeding the proportion of those 31-50 years old by about 11%. The figures for the youngest and oldest age brackets, meanwhile, were exceptionally lower, at merely below 5%. Over the following year, dramatic declines to around 45% and 39% were witnessed in the percentage of 16-30 and 31-50-year-old internet users respectively, whereas that of the two other groups rose substantially to nearly 10%.

By the end of the timescale, age disparity in internet consumption in Taiwan was further narrowed. Specifically, despite undergoing marginal decreases to less than 45%, citizens aged 16-50 remained the dominant group of internet users in this Asian country. By contrast, there were notable increases in the figure for internet usage among those less than 15 and over 50, who constituted approximately 10% of each cohort’s total percentage.
