It is opined that instead of allocating funds to the restoration of current buildings, such financial resources should be invested in constructing new public ones namely museums and town halls. From a personal perspective, I completely disapprove of this viewpoint owing to the pivotal importance of existing constructions and the desirability of renovating them.

To begin with, government expenditure should be allotted to the renovation of established buildings, specifically those of cultural and historical significance. Since such structures represent the history, traditions, and craftsmanship of a particular era, they manifest themselves as a primary factor conducive to an area or country’s uniqueness and distinctive characters. Given their immense intangible value and extensive knowledge, such architectural sites could cultivate a sense of pride and appreciation among local inhabitants by revealing an intriguing insight into their cultural heritage and identity. Therefore, any failure to restore historic buildings may result in their structural degradation, thus causing an irreversible loss of indigenous distinctive features. 

Another point is that it is fallacy to argue that creating new public buildings would be more financially beneficial to communities due to advanced infrastructure. Indeed, the construction of such premises as museums, libraries or town halls entails new resources and substantial governmental funding. Alternatively, rather than demolishing old structures and constructing new ones from scratch, the local authorities could overhaul existing buildings utilizing readily available foundation, facilities and electrical systems. Such an approach proves more cost-effective and resource-saving for the national budget, which could otherwise be spent on other critical sectors.

In conclusion, the merits conferred by renovating existing constructions can vastly eclipse those of building new ones. Hence, I am convinced that governmental capital should be preferentially distributed to the maintenance of these structures for the sake of both individual and public gains.
