As global population surges rapidly, housing shortages emerge as a growing problem faced by numerous cities worldwide. Many people opine that such an unsettling issue can only be addressed by governmental authorities. From a personal perspective, I partly disapprove of this viewpoint by arguing that resolving such an issue would require concerted attempts of both governments as well as organizations..

One point for my view is that governmental power indisputably plays an integral role in mitigating housing deficiency in urban areas. Given their exclusive authority as to policy implementation, national administrative units are entitled to imposing regulations on the provision of additional houses, specifically communal residential zones for financially disadvantaged citizens. Also, governments can also harness their political influence to incentivize city councils to undertake housing development plans on an extensive scale, as exemplified in the case of Singapore, whose social housing program has successfully provided the majority of the population with affordable accommodation.

Another reasons is that the lack of adequate dwellings in large cities can also be effectively tackled by actions taken by non-governmenal institutes. Indeed, several real estate agencies and enterprises, considering their economic clout, can conduct housing projects for a multitude of city-dwellers without relying on government intervention for financial funding. They can either independently bid for contracts for accommodation provision affairs or collaborate with other cooperations to comprehensively reform housing plans in cities. For instance, Vingroup, the largest private conglomerate of Vietnam, has founded a commercial real estate developer called Vinhomes, accommodating the rising demand for reasonably priced residential accomodation for citizens nationwide.

In conclusion, government intervention is far from the sole solution to cities’ increasing accommodation shortages. Hence, I am convinced that the duty should be assumed by both the private sector and governmental organizations to thoroughly resolve this complex issue.
