Different from the past when children used to be under strict parental control, many young people now are given a higher level of freedom in various aspects of life. I personally believe that such a tendency should be seen as a major progress with favorable implications for the young’s skill and behavioral development.

One important benefit of giving children more freedom is related to more created chances for their skill development. As children can freely decide their leisure activities and learning fields, they can explore their interests and talents independently. This autonomy to make their own choices and navigate their surrounding world can enable students to foster a sense of self-confidence and self-esteem. Furthermore, an accumulation of personal experiences in terms of facing failures, taking responsibility for their choices, and coping with problems on their own can boost the young’s analytical and problem-solving skills. As a result, they would be more able to tackle complex adulthood challenges with resilience and lead an independent life without reliance on parents.

Another implication is that increased autonomy is vital to the young’ development of desirable behaviors. Granting children more freedom in daily activities enables them to freely express their emotions, develop coping mechanisms, and take on age-appropriate responsibilities, including managing personal belongings, completing household tasks, or navigating their neighborhoods. During such tasks, children can gain a sense of empowerment and other qualities such as sympathy, kindness, bravery, and honesty during their interactions with others. This is not the case in the past when many rich Vietnamese children who are overprotected by their parents tended to misbehave and act arrogantly towards others.

In conclusion, I personally believe that being given more freedom in leisure activities, daily tasks, and interactions with others, the young nowadays can greatly benefit from skill and behavioral development. It is suggested that parents should create a more enabling environment for their children with a certain level of supervision and guidance to maximize their benefits.
