Reality has shown that a large number of students these days are encountering difficulties in staying focused during classes. Personally, I am convinced that this matter mainly stems from unwanted learning interruption and the shortcomings of current teaching methodology, which can be tackled by concerted efforts of both teachers and school authorities.

To begin with, learners can be discouraged from paying full attention in class due to unwanted distractions. Exposure to such diversions as unnecessary talking, outside noises or personal devices namely smartphones and hand-held games is particularly common during the course of a lesson. As a result, it is hugely challenging for students to stay engaged by the virtue of such unwanted interruptions. In addition, the tedious and repetitive teaching methods should also be held accountable for learners’ lack of attentiveness. Given the ever-evolving society, the passive learning environment and the monotonous, long-winded lessons no longer suffice in the current modernized world, thus increasingly demotivating numerous students. On such grounds, the attention span of students nowadays is being reduced on an extensive scale, adversely affecting their academic performance at school.

This pressing issue can be effectively addressed by several solutions carried out by schools and teachers. Firstly, restrictions on the use of technical devices, building insulated walls or limiting excessive classroom decorations can substantially improve learners’ engagement in the lessons at hand. Another feasible approach to be mentioned lies in the fundamental transformation of the conventional teaching and learning approach. Specifically, more interaction, team-work, illustrations and practical experience should be harnessed to replace the former one-way knowledge acquisition. This renovation inevitably requires a joint attempt of teachers and school authorities alike to modernize or reform the school curriculum, thereby not only extending students’ attention span but also inspiring them to be more creative and enthusiastic during lessons. 

In conclusion, it is undesired disturbance and the old-fashioned teaching methodology that inhibit multiple students from staying engaged at school. As such, their concentration ability would be tremendously improved by means of distraction removal and a shift in the current teaching strategies.
