It is opined that younger members should be legally obliged to take care of older ones in a household when the latter are incapable of ensuring their physical, psychological and financial well-being. From a personal perspective, I emphatically concur with this viewpoint owing to the favorable impacts it exerts on individuals and communities alike.
On an individual level, making it constitutionally mandatory for younger generations to support their senior kins is of crucial importance to the elderly’s overall health. Indeed, when experiencing the aging process, people would inevitably suffer from such health deteriorations as forgetfulness, visual and bodily impairments that deprive them of the ability to look after themselves. If the government fails to legally demand the care of younger family members to their senior ones, the elderly could be abandoned, which consequently puts their survival in jeopardy. Hence, it is both the moral and legal accountability of their offspring, the closest relatives to such individuals, to safeguard their mental and physical well-being.
On a larger scale, the proposed policy can potentially alleviate undesirable burdens placed on the government. It stands to the reason that public senior care entails the construction of numerous facilities namely nursing homes, retirement communities as well as the supply of qualified caregivers. The provision of such resources would detract an astronomical amount of money from the national budget, which could otherwise be more effectively allocated to education, communal healthcare systems and other integral sectors of the country. Therefore, imposing legal responsibility on the young to support their older family members can not only reduce unnecessary strain on governmental capital but also foster social welfare as a whole.
In conclusion, in view of the aforementioned arguments, I am convinced that implementing the legislation regarding senior care is of vital significance. On such a ground, the focus is on the younger generations to take care of their elderly kins for the sake of both individual prolonged life expectancy and sustainable societal prosperity.
