[STORY]

[when] it happened three years ago when I was taking a trip to Greece for relaxation during my summer holiday.

[how] It was my first time travelling abroad which explained my eagerness about it that I booked the flight 2 months in advance. Due to the long distance, according to the plan, it would take two flights to get there and I have to take transit in Japan, however, for some technical issues, I was announced to board on the wrong plane and I ended up in Australia.

As soon as I recognized that, I tried to contact customer support but would have to wait another three days to be able to get on a plane to Greece so I decided to take the plunge and have my holiday in Australia. 4. IELTS Speaking Part 3 Sample & Ideas: Information

SAMPLE & IDEAS

1. Why do some people not trust information on the Internet?

[Lead-in] For me personally, it is the lack of censorship due to giant amount of data online

[Explain] If you type in a certain keyword and search for it on Google, You can receive billions or even trillions of results within milliseconds. Not all of them are properly censored and ensure that the given information is from a trust-worthy source. This is not to mention scams and fraud online. Some people become skeptical after such an experience and reserve to not trusting anyone online no more

  • lack of censorship: thiếu kiểm duyệt
  • a trust-worthy source: nguồn tin đáng tin cậy
  • scams and fraud online: các vụ lừa đảo và gian lận trực tuyến
  • become skeptical: trở nên đa nghi

2. What jobs provide information to others?

[Lead-in] I believe one job that fits that criteria that not many people think of is teacher

[Explain] Well, a teacher provides knowledge and helps enrich the understanding of his/her students. They shape the world view and perspective of a coming generation. In fact, in one of the best, if not the best, educational system in the world, in Finland, teachers need to meet a variety of standards in order to be able to teach and the number of teacher is always limited and very minimal

  • helps enrich the understanding of students: nâng cao hiểu biết của học sinh
  • shape the world view and perspective: định hình quan điểm và tầm nhìn về thế giới
  • need to meet a variety of standards: cần đáp ứng một loạt các tiêu chuẩn

3. What’s the difference between email and phone in terms of providing information?

[Lead-in] I believe the most obvious one is that one is oral and one is through the written form

[Explain] For the written form, I think its upside lies in the ability to provide exact information that can be revised on demand and the receiver can record or even copy and paste the same message to many other people. Meanwhile, phone conversations are more spontaneous and can transfer both information and the emotion of the speaker along with the quick delivering speed despite being error-prone

  • spontaneous: tự phát
  • quick delivering speed: tốc độ trao đổi nhanh
  • error-prone: dễ mắc lỗi, dễ sai sót

4. Which do you think is the better way to provide information, by phone or email?

[Lead-in] The email is a much better means to get information across than the phone

[Explain] Despite its quick speed and instant connection feature. In terms of accuracy and transparency, an email can deliver more precise information than a phone call as it allows the sender to organize their thoughts and edit their message before sending it. This happens because the email receiver can go over the email many times, visit many sources to fully grasp the meaning of what was being written and carefully examine different pieces of info included in it. By contrast, some might not catch everything being explained over the phone

  • quick speed and instant connection feature: tính năng tốc độ nhanh và kết nối tức thì.
  • go over something: xét xét, kiểm tra lại
  • fully grasp the meaning: hiểu đúng ý nghĩa

5. How do people determine the accuracy of information?

[Lead-in] There are many ways in which this can be done

[Explain] Firstly, people can try to obtain the same piece of information from different sources, for the most part, a piece of information is true if the same content is written in many different sources. Secondly, people can search for advice from experts in the same field. By doing this, they can ensure the info they get is established and trustable

6. How do people make sure they’re getting the right information?

[Lead-in] For me personally, there are two things that I always do in order to receive the most accurate information

[Explain] Firstly, I only believe what is being said on mainstream channels or established websites. These can be established columns, newspapers or the official account of some public figures. Moreover, I check if the information is logically true, for example, if some online stranger tells me that I can easily receive a $10.000 refrigerator from an unknown competition that I don’t even know that I participated in simply by banking them $100 the shipping fee. I would not believe that

  • mainstream channels: các kênh phổ biến
  • shipping fee: phí vận chuyển
