the crowd was cheering, singing along, and having conversations // various noises like announcements and musics from food stalls and souvenirs shops in the outer zone  => adds to the overall noise level

4. IELTS Speaking Part 3 Sample & Ideas: Noise

SAMPLE & IDEAS

1. Do you think it is good for children to make noise?

[lead-in] Absolutely! It’s totally fine and even great for kids to make some noise.

[explain] Making noise is a natural part of being a child and exploring the world around them // how they express themselves, communicate, and have fun =>  not a bad thing // it’s important to let them be a little loud and enjoy their playful nature.

2. Should children not be allowed to make noise under any circumstances?

[lead-in] Well, I don’t think it’s realistic or fair to expect children to be quiet all the time. Of course, there are certain situations where they need to be mindful of others and keep the noise level down, like in places such as libraries or during important events. But overall, children should have the freedom to express themselves and make some noise. It’s a part of their growth and development.

3. What kinds of noises are there in our life?

[lead-in] Our lives are filled with all sorts of noises

[kinds of noise] the hustle and bustle of traffic // the chatter of people // the hum of electronic devices // and the music playing in the background // Then there are the natural sounds like birds chirping, waves crashing, or even the rain falling // And let’s not forget about those unwanted noises, such as construction work, sirens, and noisy neighbors => Our life is a mix of noises and sounds

  • filled with all sorts of noises: xung quanh tràn ngập các loại tiếng ồn
  • hustle and bustle: sự nhộn nhịp và hối hả
  • the chatter of people: tiếng nói chuyện
  • the hum of electronic devices: tiếng kêu của thiết bị điện tử
  • construction work, sirens: tiếng công trình, tiếng còi báo động

4. Which area is exposed to noise more, the city or the countryside?

[lead-in] Well, it’s no secret that the city is usually louder compared to the countryside.

[explain] In urban areas, you’ve got more people, more cars, and more activity overall, which naturally leads to more noise. The constant traffic, construction sites, and various businesses all contribute to the hustle and bustle. In contrast, the countryside tends to be quieter and more peaceful with less human activity and more open space. So, I’d say the city definitely takes the crown for being exposed to more noise.

5. How would people usually respond to noises in your country?

[lead-in] In my country, people’s reactions to noises can vary.

[explain]

In busy urban areas, people might have grown accustomed to the constant noise=> developed a bit of tolerance >< excessive or prolonged noise can still get on their nerves, and they might try to find ways to reduce or manage the noise levels.

In residential areas, where people value peace and tranquility, excessive noise can lead to complaints // disputes among neighbors // even involving local authorities to address the issue and find a solution

  • grown accustomed to the constant noise: trở nên quen với tiếng ồn liên tục
  • developed a bit of tolerance: tăng cường sức chịu đựng
  • excessive or prolonged noise: tiếng ồn quá mức hoặc kéo dài

6. What harms does noise pollution bring? How to reduce the harm of noise?

[lead-in] Noise pollution can have a range of negative impacts on our well-being.

[explain] Constant exposure to loud noises can affect our hearing => increase stress levels // disrupt our sleep patterns // even cause serious health issues

[extend] To minimize the harm of noise, there are a few things we can do // Implementing and enforcing noise regulations is really important // using soundproofing techniques in buildings // creating barriers to reduce noise from roads and highways => Ultimately, it’s about raising awareness, practicing considerate behavior, and finding ways to create more peaceful and quiet spaces in our communities

  • constant exposure: tiếp xúc liên tục
  • soundproofing techniques: các kỹ thuật cách âm
