• Recyclable (n) có thể tái chế được

⇒ It is necessary that manufacturers start to use recyclable packaging to reduce the amount of plastic waste.

• Biodegrade (v) phân hủy sinh học

⇒ Some plastics are designed to biodegrade when their useful life is over.

• Biodegradable (adj) phân hủy sinh học

⇒ I recycle biodegradable items, such as food, or any other organic material, in order to make compost.

• Discard something = dispose of something (v) loại bỏ

⇒ People tend to discard empty plastic bottles on the street instead of into a trash can.

• Single-use disposable (adj) chỉ được dùng một lần

⇒ Instead of throwing them away after use, people should learn to recycle single-use items.

• Practice the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle

⇒ Governments should create laws encouraging people to practice the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. Otherwise, the earth will soon become a huge landfill.

• Separate = segregate (v) phân loại

⇒ We can segregate our waste into biodegradable and non-degradable types.

• Trash picker (n) người nhặt rác

⇒ Trash pickers often dig through garbage for items to resell.

• Decompose (v) phân hủy

⇒ Today, people tend to replace plastic bags with paper bags because they know plastics take too long to decompose.

• Decomposition (n) sự phân hủy

⇒ They generate all electricity from biogas produced by the decomposition of pig manure.

• A drop in the ocean (idiom) ám chỉ một việc làm gì đó có sức ảnh hưởng rất nhỏ

⇒ The number of manufacturers which use environmentally friendly materials is still just a drop in the ocean.

II. Áp dụng từ vựng Recycling vào IELTS Speaking Part 1

Q: Will you recycle in the future?

⇒ I've really been practicing the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle - for a long now, so I'll undoubtedly keep recycling in the future. I've been segregating my household garbage into different containers for the past few years so that recyclers don't waste time sorting it before recycling. Sometimes a trash picker is the one who removes them, and because I know this task is difficult enough, I want to spare him some time by separating my own waste.

Q: What kinds of things do you recycle?

⇒ Basically, any recyclable things such as milk cartons, water bottles, or plastic bags. For my own seedlings, I would chop off plastic bottle bottoms to make a beautiful planter. I reuse them as waste bin liners and occasionally as shipping packaging.

Q: Did you recycle when you were a kid?

⇒ My parents, who care about the environment, taught me how to recycle when I was a little child. I was too young at the time to distinguish between recyclable and non-recyclable items, so I probably wasn't recycling correctly. Instead of discarding items that may still be useful, I just continued utilizing them again. For instance, I frequently saved my milk cartons, cleaned them, and used them as planters.
