5. IELTS Speaking Part 3 Sample: International event

SAMPLE

1. What are the main reasons countries decide to host international events?

Interesting you ask that, as hosting international events can really bring a lot of benefits to a country. A key reason behind this is the boost it gives to tourism and the local economy. For example, during the Olympics, hotels, restaurants, and shops in the host city usually see a massive increase in business. From my perspective, it’s clear that countries also use these events to showcase their culture and global standing. This happens because such events attract media coverage, which helps promote the country internationally.

2. How can international events influence the culture of a host country?

Hmm, considering that international events bring people from all over the world, they definitely have an impact on the host country’s culture. I recall a time when my city hosted an international festival, and it was amazing to see how it introduced new food, art, and even language to locals. This can be attributed to the cultural exchange that happens when different people meet and share their traditions. To me, it seems that these events help to broaden the perspectives of people in the host country.

3. What are the economic benefits of hosting an international event?

From my perspective, it’s clear that the economic benefits of hosting international events are often one of the main reasons countries compete to host them. A key reason behind this is the surge in tourism, which leads to more business for hotels, restaurants, and shops. I would argue that long–term benefits also come from infrastructure improvements, as cities often invest in better transport and public services for the event. This can be attributed to the need to accommodate large numbers of visitors, which forces cities to modernize their facilities.

4. What challenges do cities face when preparing to host an international event?

In my opinion, hosting international events comes with many challenges for cities. A key reason behind this is the pressure to improve infrastructure, which can be very costly and time–consuming. I’ve had a situation where I saw my city undergo major construction projects just to meet the demands of an event, and it caused traffic and disruptions. From my perspective, it’s clear that security is also a big concern, as cities need to ensure the safety of both participants and spectators.

5. How can international events promote understanding and cooperation between different countries?

Hmm, considering that international events bring people and countries together, they naturally promote understanding and cooperation. This can be attributed to the interactions that happen during these events, where people from different backgrounds get a chance to learn about each other. I recall a time when I attended a global sports competition and saw athletes from different countries supporting each other, which shows how these events can build mutual respect. To me, it seems that this kind of environment encourages peaceful relations and future partnerships.

6. What impact do international sporting events have on athletes and their careers?

That’s a great question because international sporting events often have a huge impact on athletes and their careers. For instance, winning or even performing well in such events can lead to sponsorship deals and new opportunities. I would argue that it also boosts their confidence and reputation on a global scale. However, this can be attributed to the fact that these events are broadcasted worldwide, giving athletes a bigger platform. From my perspective, it’s clear that the pressure to perform can be intense, but the rewards are worth it.
