IELTS SPEAKING FORECAST Q3/2024 - PART 2: Describe an old trend on the Internet that you think should be brought back & PART 3: Internet trends

1. IELTS Speaking Part 2 Sample: Describe an old trend on the Internet that you think should be brought back

TOPIC: Describe an old trend on the Internet that you think should be brought back

You should say:

  • What is the trend?
  • When did the trend become popular?
  • What did you think about the trend at the time?
  • Why do you think the trend should be brought back?

SAMPLE

Alright, let me tell you about a trend from the early days of the Internet that I really think should make a comeback: blogs. Back in the early 2000s, blogging became super popular, and everyone seemed to have their own space online to share their thoughts, stories, and experiences.

I remember it really took off around 2003 to 2005. It was a time when people loved to read personal stories and connect over shared interests. I thought it was amazing! It felt like a great way to express creativity and connect with others who had similar passions. Plus, there were some really unique voices out there that you just don’t see as much anymore.

I think bringing blogging back could be great for a few reasons. First, it encourages people to write and express themselves more deeply. In today’s fast–paced social media world, we often just post quick updates or photos, but blogging allows for more thoughtful content. It can also create a sense of community, as people share their stories and connect over shared experiences. Overall, I believe it would add more depth to our online interactions and bring back that personal touch we’ve kind of lost.

(Aspect 1) Influencers and celebrities also play a huge role in boosting trends since their large followings can spread content quickly. (Aspect 2) Overall, it’s a mix of creativity, relatability, and the right audience.

2. Why are some internet trends short–lived while others last longer?

Some internet trends are short–lived because they may be based on fleeting moments or gimmicks. (Point) For instance, a viral dance challenge might explode in popularity but fade just as quickly when people lose interest. (Aspect 1) On the other hand, trends that tap into deeper cultural themes or ongoing social issues tend to stick around longer. 4. What impact can internet trends have on how people communicate?

Internet trends can change the way we communicate a lot. (Point) For example, trends like emojis and memes have become a common part of our conversations, making them more visual and fun.
