Describe a journey/travel you were looking forward to but it was delayed

1. IELTS Speaking Part 2 Sample: Describe a journey/travel you were looking forward to but it was delayed

TOPIC: Describe a journey/travel you were looking forward to but it was delayed.

You should say:

  • Why were you looking forward to it?
  • Why did it have to be delayed?
  • How did you feel about the experience?

SAMPLE

A journey I was really excited about was a trip to Japan that I had planned for last spring. I’d been looking forward to it for ages because I wanted to dive into Japanese culture, check out the historic temples, and see the cherry blossoms. The thought of wandering around Tokyo and eating authentic sushi was just amazing.

But then, the trip got delayed because of unexpected travel restrictions and flight cancellations. It was really frustrating to see all our plans fall apart and have to scramble to rearrange everything. I was pretty disappointed and bummed out about it.

Despite the setback, I tried to stay positive. I used the extra time to learn more about Japan, which actually made me even more excited when the trip was finally rescheduled. So, even though the delay was a real letdown, it ended up making the trip even more special.

5. IELTS Speaking Part 3 Sample: Transport

SAMPLE

1. What are the main means of transport in your country?

(Point) In my country, the main modes of transport are motorbikes, buses, and cars. (Explain) Motorbikes are probably the most common, especially in urban areas, because they’re affordable and allow people to get through traffic more easily. (Example) Besides, public transport like buses is also widely used, especially for longer commutes. Recently, ride-hailing apps have become popular too, making it easier for people to travel without owning a vehicle.

2. Do you think traveling was better in the past than it is now?

(Point) Personally, I think traveling is much better now than it was in the past. (Explain) These days, we have a lot more options, from budget airlines to high-speed trains, which make it faster and more affordable to get around. (Example) In the past, traveling long distances was more of a hassle, and it took much longer. Nowadays, everything’s more streamlined and convenient, which makes a huge difference.

3. Has it improved? How?

(Point) Oh, absolutely, travel has improved a lot. (Explain) For one, the infrastructure has gotten much better. Roads are wider and in better condition, and public transit systems like metro and bus networks have expanded significantly in major cities. (Example) We also have better access to technology that makes traveling more efficient, like ride-hailing apps and navigation tools. So overall, it’s definitely more convenient and faster than it used to be.

4. Are there any ways to enhance transportation efficiency in your country?

(Point) I think we can improve transportation efficiency by investing more in public transit systems. (Explain) Expanding metro and bus routes, particularly in underserved areas, would help reduce traffic congestion and encourage people to use more sustainable forms of transport. (Example) Also, introducing more eco-friendly options like electric buses or bikes could really improve the flow of traffic and reduce pollution at the same time.

5. How can transportation in rural areas be developed?

(Point) Developing transport in rural areas would require better infrastructure and more public services. (Explain) Many rural areas don’t have proper roads or reliable public transport, so improving road networks and adding more bus services could make a big difference. (Example) For example, in some rural regions, even introducing smaller community shuttles or buses could help people get around more easily, reducing their reliance on personal vehicles.

6. Do you think that tourist attractions help people learn about new cultures?

(Point) Yes, I definitely think tourist attractions help people learn about new cultures. (Explain) When visiting places like historical sites or museums, tourists get a glimpse into the history, traditions, and way of life of the local people. (Example) For instance, visiting a temple in Japan or exploring the pyramids in Egypt gives tourists not only a chance to see amazing sights but also to learn about the culture and history behind them.

7. Do you think technology makes traveling more difficult?

(Point) Honestly, I think technology has made traveling easier, not harder. (Explain) With things like GPS, ride-hailing apps, and online booking platforms, it’s much simpler to plan a trip and get around unfamiliar places. (Example) In the past, people had to rely on physical maps and guidebooks, but now, you can just open an app and find everything you need, from directions to hotel reservations, in a matter of seconds.

8. What can the government do to improve transport in your country?

(Point) The government could improve transport by investing more in public transit and upgrading infrastructure. (Explain) Expanding metro lines, improving bus services, and building more roads would reduce traffic and make commuting more efficient. (Example) They could also subsidize eco-friendly options like electric buses or bike-sharing programs to encourage more people to use sustainable transport, which would help cut down on congestion and pollution.
