1. TASK ANALYSIS: OPINION ESSAYS

TOPIC: Many people believe that alcohol causes many problems and there have been frequent calls for the government to ban it. To what extent do you agree? 

APPROACH 01: TOTALLY AGREE

INTRO – THESIS STATEMENT: Many problems have been associated with the consumption of alcohol and so many citizens are demanding that the authorities do something to make it illegal. I totally agree that action is necessary to prevent the sale of alcoholic beverages, because they would exert a serious effect on people’s health and the harmony of society in general.

PARAGRAPH 01 – TOPIC SENTENCE: The main reason why I think alcohol should be forbidden is

because when people drink it has a grave effect on their health.

PARAGRAPH 02 – TOPIC SENTENCE: Another strong argument for a ban on alcohol consumption is its detrimental effects on society in general.

CONCLUSION: In summary, I reaffirm my position that alcohol should be forbidden because it has a serious effect on people’s health and social problems. Therefore, we must take prompt action to solve this problem; otherwise, consequences associated with unsatisfactory lives and an unhealthy society are undeniable.

APPROACH 02: PARTIALLY AGREE

INTRO – THESIS STATEMENT: I somewhat agree that action is necessary to prevent the sale of alcoholic beverages, due to its harmful impacts on people’s health our society; however, I think that a total ban might violate individuals’ human rights.

PARAGRAPH 01 – TOPIC SENTENCE: A ban on alcohol consumption is reasonable for its detrimental health implications for individuals and undesired effects on society in general.

PARAGRAPH 02 – TOPIC SENTENCE: However, I am concerned that such prohibition should be infeasible due to individuals’ rights to decide for themselves whether to drink or not.

CONCLUSION: In conclusion, I partially agree with banning the sale of alcohol for its detriments to people’s health and associated social problems. However, I give my strong support to the point that individuals should be entitled to the right to make their own decisions. My recommendation is that the sale of alcohol should only be restricted to people who have previously abused alcohol or have negatively affected others when drunk.

2. TASK ANALYSIS: DISCUSSION ESSAYS

TOPIC: Some people think that the government should strictly control the supply of fresh water, while others think we can use as much water as we want. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

INTRO – THESIS STATEMENT:

+ VERSION 01: In this essay, I am going to examine this question from both points of view and then give my own opinion on the matter.

+ VERSION 02: While many argue that public water supplies should be tightly regulated by the authorities, I firmly believe that people should have the right to use fresh water freely.

PARAGRAPH 01 – TOPIC SENTENCE: On the one hand, it is justifiable for some to argue that the government should strictly supervise households’ consumption of fresh water. 

PARAGRAPH 02 – TOPIC SENTENCE: On the other hand, I side with those advocating that citizens should be entitled to unrestrained use of fresh water.

CONCLUSION:

+ VERSION 01: In my opinion, both arguments have their own merits. On balance, however, I tend to believe that individuals’ freedom in their freshwater consumption should be granted since measures to restrict their water consumption are likely to be infeasible, and any form of restriction might prevent people from meeting their bare necessities.

+ VERSION 02: In conclusion, despite arguments for strict governmental regulations to restrict freshwater provision, I am more convinced that people should have freedom in access to this important resource. Such a tendency could guarantee an adequate amount of clean water among citizens to meet their bare necessities. 

3. TASK ANALYSIS: TWO-QUESTION ESSAYS

TOPIC: The number of people interested in cosmetic surgery is increasing in order to improve their physical appearance. Why? Is this a positive or negative development?

 INTRO – THESIS STATEMENT:

+ VERSION 01: This essay will discuss reasons for such a growing tendency among individuals, before explaining why it should be considered beneficial.

 + VERSION 02: [question 01] The trend of undergoing cosmetic procedures stems from globalization, [question 02] and I believe it is overall beneficial as it helps improve one’s self-esteem. 

PARAGRAPH 01 – TOPIC SENTENCE: The rising prevalence of cosmetic enhancements emerges from the shifting beauty norms associated with increased globalization.

PARAGRAPH 02 – TOPIC SENTENCE: Nevertheless, I believe this development is an overall positive due to its potential to improve one’s self-esteem.

CONCLUSION:

[summarize question 01] In conclusion, the growing number of cosmetic procedures these days is attributed to globalization, [summarize question 02] and I believe this is a welcoming trend as it helps facilitate increased levels of confidence. [suggestion] It is also important for measures to properly manage to be applied; otherwise, this development may foster appearance-based discrimination.
