In several nations, the construction of exclusive infrastructure to train professional athletes for international reputation is prioritized over offering sports amenities for the general public. From a personal perspective, I would contend that this policy manifests itself as a detrimental development due to several downsides. 

To begin with, placing more emphasis on providing top athletes with specialized facilities may exert adverse effects on the populace’s well-being. Indeed, allocating extra financial resources to enhancing sports stars’ careers equates to the deficiency of spaces and opportunities for ordinary citizens to exercise. This, in turn, can widen the existing social divide between elite sports and grassroots participation, engendering challenges for numerous individuals to improve their health, particularly among financially disadvantaged ones with limited means to access private sports amenities as opposed to the elite minority. As a consequence, communal engagement in sports and physical activities would be greatly discouraged, thus resulting in diminished overall public well-being.

Another unfavorable impact of focusing on elite athletes’ achievement rather than the broad population lies in dwindling prospects for national sports development. Admittedly, building world-class sports premises can bring honor and recognition for professional sports players as well as foster a positive image for their home country. Nevertheless, such a propensity overlooks the fact that the general citizenry also includes young individuals with unfulfilled potential for sports who require adequate infrastructure to maximize their capability. Consequently, this failure to discover and nurture would-be athletes from diverse socio-economic backgrounds could gradually undermine the talent pool for future sports advancement of a nation.

In conclusion, prioritizing investments in developing amenities for top athletes can detrimentally affect public health and sustainable sports development. Hence, I am convinced that more resources should be distributed to attending to ordinary citizens’ demands for the sake of societal growth as a whole.
