The bar chart below shows shares of expenditures for five major categories in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Japan in the year 2009.

2. Phân tích và chọn số liệu quan trọng

2 hạng mục chi tiêu nhiều nhất:

• Food: Japan topped the chart // nearly 10% higher than US and Canada
• Housing: US made up for the largest // Canada allocated the least, around 21%

3 hạng mục còn lại (transportation, healthcare & clothing):

• Transportation: 20% of Canadians’ total spending // around 17% for US people // nearly double Japan, at 10%
• Healthcare and clothing: no remarkable disparity in 4 countries // relatively low // at less than 6% on average // healthcare constituted about 8% of US’s budget

4. Bài mẫu - IELTS Sample Band 8.0+ cho đề thi IELTS Writing Task 1 ngày 21/01/2023

The bar graph compares the proportion of spending allocated to different categories among four countries in the year 2009. Overall, except for Japan, the remaining nations disbursed the biggest share of expenditures for housing. It is also clear that a larger percentage of budget was spent on food, housing and transportation compared to that of healthcare and clothing in all five countries.

Regarding the most-funded categories, Japan topped the chart in terms of spending on food, at around 23%, which was nearly 10% higher than the figure for the US and Canada. By contrast, when it comes to housing, the US made up for the largest share, with data recorded more than a quarter. Meanwhile, Canada allocated the least to this aspect, as low as around 21%,

Concerning the other three categories, transport was allocated 20% of Canadians’ total spending, followed by around 17% for US people, which was nearly double the figure for the Japanese, at 10%. By contrast, there was no remarkable disparity in the expenditure on healthcare and clothing in the four countries, with their proportions remaining  relatively low, at less than 6% on average, except for healthcare occupying around 8% of US people’s budget.
