TOPIC: Talk about a party that you regretted going to.
You should say:
SAMPLE
One party I genuinely regretted attending was a New Year’s Eve celebration I went to last year. It was thrown by a friend of mine from college who I hadn’t seen in ages. At the time, I was excited to catch up and thought it would be a fantastic way to ring in the new year. However, the reality didn’t quite match up to my expectations.
The party took place at his apartment, which was packed with people I didn’t know. It was one of those situations where the venue was overcrowded, the music was way too loud, and the whole vibe just felt off. I ended up feeling quite out of place and overwhelmed. Despite my best efforts to mingle, the conversation felt forced and superficial, and the evening dragged on.
Looking back, I regret going because it didn’t turn out to be the festive experience I had hoped for. Instead of feeling elated to start the new year, I left feeling drained and disappointed. In hindsight, I should have spent the night with closer friends or even just enjoyed a quieter celebration. Sometimes, the anticipation of an event doesn’t always align with how it actually unfolds, and this was definitely one of those times.
Part 3 - FEELING REGRET
SAMPLE
(Point) Well, in my country, most people get around using motorbikes, buses, and cars. (Explain) Motorbikes are super popular because they're affordable and can weave through traffic easily, especially in crowded cities. (Example) Also, buses are pretty common for longer trips, and recently, ride-hailing apps have made car travel more accessible for a lot of folks.
(Point) Honestly, I think traveling now is much better than it was before. (Explain) Nowadays, we have faster, more efficient, and more comfortable ways to travel. (Example) Like, back in the day, long trips used to take forever, but with things like high-speed trains and budget airlines, getting from one place to another is way easier now.
(Point) Oh, definitely! Transportation has come a long way. (Explain) I’d say the biggest improvement has been in infrastructure and how everything’s connected now. Roads are better maintained, and public transport is a lot more reliable than before. (Example) Take the metro systems that have popped up in big cities; they’ve really helped reduce traffic jams.
(Point) I think we could make transport more efficient by investing more in public transport. (Explain) Expanding metro lines and increasing bus services would reduce the number of cars on the road, which would help with traffic congestion. (Example) Also, encouraging eco-friendly options like biking could make commuting more sustainable and reduce pollution.
(Point) Improving transport in rural areas would probably mean building better roads and increasing public transport options. (Explain) A lot of rural places don’t have good bus services, which forces people to rely on their own vehicles. Expanding bus routes and improving road conditions would make a big difference. (Example) Even introducing smaller shuttle services could help people in rural communities get around more easily.
(Point) Oh, for sure! Visiting tourist attractions is a great way to learn about new cultures. (Explain) These places give people a chance to experience local customs, history, and traditions firsthand, which can be really eye-opening. (Example) For instance, visiting a landmark like the Great Wall of China gives you a deeper appreciation for the country’s history and culture.
(Point) Honestly, I think technology has made traveling easier rather than harder. (Explain) These days, with apps for booking flights, accommodation, and even transportation, everything’s more convenient. (Example) GPS and ride-hailing apps like Uber or Grab have made navigating new places a breeze compared to the old days of using paper maps or asking for directions.
(Point) I think the government should focus on upgrading infrastructure and encouraging public transport. (Explain) Better roads and expanding metro lines could help reduce the heavy traffic we see in cities. Plus, making public transport cheaper and more accessible would definitely get more people to use it. (Example) For example, subsidies for electric buses could not only improve efficiency but also reduce pollution, which is a win-win.
