Mặc dù tiếng Anh đối với rất nhiều bạn là một thứ rất khó chịu, khó yêu và khó chiều, nhưng ngược lại với định kiến trên, ngữ pháp tiếng Anh rất đơn giản và dễ hiểu, đặc biệt nếu như bạn đã nắm rõ các quy tắc về trật tự từ trong câu (Word order).

IPP xin giới thiệu đến các bạn về những quy tắc trật tự từ trong câu trong tiếng Anh và một số mẹo khi sắp xếp trật tự từ trong câu.

I. Sơ nét về trật tự từ trong câu

Trật tự từ (Word Order) trong tiếng Anh tuân theo một cấu trúc cố định trong hầu hết các bài Writing and Speaking. Và các câu thường bắt đầu bằng một chủ ngữ (Subject) và một động từ (Verb)

Subject + Predicate + Object ( S + V + O)
Chủ ngữ + Vị ngữ + Tân ngữ

Chúng ta thường sắp xếp trật tự từ trong câu theo công thức này để tạo nên một câu tiếng Anh.

Ví dụ:

• Emma buys a pair of high heels.
• She meets her sister.

Lưu ý 01. Trạng từ chỉ tần suất (Adverbs of Frequency)

Trạng từ chỉ tần suất như là always, usually,... thường đứng giữa chủ ngữ và vị ngữ, nhưng đôi khi cũng có thể đứng đầu hoặc đứng cuối câu. (ngoại trừ always, never, and everever)

Ví dụ: Emma usually buys a pair of high heels for her sister. She often meets her. They don’t meet each other very often. Sometimes they go to the restaurant on Saturday.

Lưu ý 02. Trạng từ chỉ cách thức, nơi chốn và thời gian (Adverbs of manner, place, and time)

• Trạng từ chỉ cách thức thường đứng trước trạng từ chỉ nơi chốn (adverbs of place).
• Trạng từ chỉ nơi chốn thường đứng trước trạng từ chỉ thời gian (adverbs of time).
• Thông thường, những trạng từ này cũng nằm ở cuối câu.

Ví dụ: Emma bought a pair of high heels in Chanel last week. She gave it to her sister yesterday.

Circle the correct options for the question words form:

1. b How often do you go to the supermarket?

⇒ How + adjective/adverb as a question word. (Ex: how often, how tall,...)

2. c What time does he finish his classes?

⇒ What + noun as a question word. (Ex: what size, what time,...)

3. d Who is the woman over there?

⇒ When the Verb is be, we should use am/is/are before the Subject.

Question Word (Who) + am/is/are + Subject

4. Where is your teacher from?

⇒ Question Word (Where) + am/is/are + Subject
