TOPIC: Describe a public place that you used to visit a lot but do not anymore.
You should say:
SAMPLE
You know, a public place I used to visit a lot but don’t anymore is the local shopping mall in my town. Back in the day, when I was in high school, I’d hang out there with my friends almost every weekend. One of the main reasons was that it had everything – clothing stores, food courts, and even a cinema. It was the perfect spot to meet up with friends, grab a bite to eat, or check out the latest movies.
But over time, I stopped going there as much. For one thing, the mall has become quite outdated and really gone downhill. It hasn’t been renovated in years, and many of the shops have closed, so the place feels kind of run–down. Besides, with online shopping being so convenient, I don’t really need to go there anymore.
Looking ahead, I’m not sure if I’ll go back anytime soon. If they decide to spruce it up and maybe add some new attractions, I might drop by again. But for now, it just doesn’t seem like a place worth visiting.
Part 3 - Popular public places
SAMPLE
That’s a great point because many things can make a public place popular. For example, if it’s well–designed and has plenty of attractions like cafes, shops, or playgrounds, people are more likely to visit. From my perspective, public places need to be accessible too – if it’s easy to get to and open to everyone, that can really boost its popularity.
Interesting you ask that, as the design plays a huge role. For one thing, good urban design can make a space more inviting and comfortable. If it’s well–planned, with open spaces, greenery, and seating areas, people will naturally want to spend time there. On the other hand, if a place feels crowded or poorly organized, people tend to avoid it.
To me, it seems that popular public places can really bring people together. A key reason behind this is they encourage social interaction. When people gather in a park or a town square, it creates a sense of community. What’s more, local businesses benefit from the foot traffic, which helps the local economy.
This happens because public places can become run–down or outdated if they aren’t well–maintained. For instance, if the facilities aren’t kept clean or renovated regularly, people might stop going. Besides, trends change, so a place that was once popular might not be as appealing anymore.
A key reason behind maintaining public spaces is that it keeps them attractive and safe. Authorities can make sure that regular upkeep is done – things like cleaning, repairs, and updates are crucial. From my perspective, having good community engagement also helps, as local people can take part in keeping the space clean.
I would argue that events and activities are one of the main reasons a place becomes popular. For instance, if a park hosts concerts, festivals, or sports activities, it draws more people in. On top of that, these events encourage people to return, making the place more lively and attractive.
